Reserves Nap Nomads

Denbigh Town Reserves bounced back from their 6-0 trouncing at the hands of Trefnant to record a well deserved 5-2 win over Rhyl Nomads , reports Peter Glynn at Central Park.
Boasting four first team players , Denbigh were head and shoulders above a weakened Nomad outfit who began proceedings with nine players.
And it only took three minutes before Sheridan's eleven took a lead , a firm planted header by Kevin Evans from a Luke O'Mahoney corner.
but if Town thought it was all plain sailing they were in for a shock as on 16 minutes , after a spell of home pressure , the Nomads broke swiftly and Josh Bucknall skipped past the last defender and poked home past a stranded Chris Brown in the Denbigh net.
It threatened to get a little tasty as first Lundstram saw yellow for off the ball activity , and then gloveman Brown needed first aid to a cut , but Denbigh settled back into a pattern and retook the lead in spectacular fashion. O'Mahoney and Dave Jones combined to test Nomad stopper Jason Ashbrooke and when the ball fell to Ben Stanway , the little right back curled a pure peach into the top right hand corner to record one of the goals of the season.
Matt Toole had another effort saved by the impressive Ashbrooke and the same man did brilliantly to deny O'Mahoney and then Tom Sheridan saw his low drive bounce off a defender as Nomads defended in desperation.
The second stanza matched the first , with Town doing all the pressing but with Nomads looking useful on the break.
Toole basically settle the game as a contest on 50 minutes , when looking a yard offside slid home into and empty net after a quicksilver run by Lundstram.
And then just after the hour , Lundstram helped himself to a goal after a glorious cross field ball from O'Mahoney presented him with acres of space.
It was now how many would Denbigh score and they duly went nap on 80 minutes , again a superb ball , this time from the excellent Jamie Clayton who landed one at the feet of Gaz John Williams and the little winger slammed home in glee.
But moments later Nomads recorded a consolation , with Dean Moss capitalising on a mistake , rounding the spreading Brown and stroking home.
Good game.
Final Score : Denbigh Town Reserves 5 v Rhyl Nomads 2

Denbigh Team: Chris Brown , James Hewitt , Jamie Clayton , Ben Stanway , Jonny Bowen (c) , Luke O'Mahoney , Tom Sheridan , Kevin Evans , Mike Lundstram , Matty Toole , Dave Jones.
Subs: Gaz John Williams , Ian Evans , Adam Owen , Brett Jones.

Just to let you know that there is a new Denbigh Town FC Website at:

www.freewebs.com/denbightown

I will leave this site up as an archive but in future all DTFC news etc will be via the above site.

Eventually I will use this site for something else , so stuff will appear not necessarily assocxiated with DTFC or even football!

The reports will of course continue in the press and on the website , and I will still do youtube videos at:

www.youtube.com/denbightownfc

Thanks for your support over the past two seasons!

The Gaffer Speaks!

Denbigh Town supremo Tim Dyer searched for a word to describe Saturday's result against Glantraeth FC. And That word was 'Disappointment'.

timdyer.jpg

"Disappointed."

" Disappointed is the only word I can find for Saturday - we never forced the issue enough.  I felt the game was there for the taking and it just needed everyone to lift the game a little and 3 points would have been ours. Yet again we have missed some good chances at a critical time in the match and then left ourselves under pressure late on in the game and then one mistake is punished and suddenly the game has gone. "

Post match , Tim and his management team sat down with the players to discuss the performance and the result.

" We had a long chat in the dressing room after the game about certain things and the players are under no illusions that the club expects more from them. Some players quite simply didn’t carry out basic instructions. They took it upon themselves to pay a different game than the one they had been picked to play and that is just not acceptable. "

Manager Dyer refused to point the finger of blame on any one individual , citing a team performance as the reason for the 2-0 reverse.

"Jamie Hulse made a mistake in goal and we were 1-0 down, whereas others made mistakes all afternoon - but people will remember the game and result because of Jamie’s mistake. Yes , we can say we were unlucky not to be in front as we hit the post and went close on a few occasions but at no level of football does any team take every chance they create and in my view we just didn’t create enough. "

Thoughts turn to Tuesday's NWCFA Cup Semi Final against Flint Town , in Llandudno.

" We (Dean, Steve and Myself) have a lot to think about before selecting a side to play Flint in the semi on Tuesday. Player availability is one issue , with Craig Goodwin unavailable due to work commitments, Lucas Brookes cup tied, and  then we also have Tony Davies doubtful (ankle), Mark Orme doubtful (ankle), Chris O’Brien doubtful (knee) along with Paul Edwards and Adam Jones still sidelined. So tactically and personnel wise we have a lot to think about."

Jonny Bowen and Matt Toole maybe added to the squad for Tuesday.

Eighteen year old Jonathan Bowen, is preparing to travel to Africa where he will help people in one of the poorest countries in the world before going to University in September.

Jonnny (pictured) , who went to Denbigh High School and who plays for Denbigh Town Football Club Firsts and Reserves, will fly to Liberia at the end of next month where he will join the crew on a ship run by the international Christian charity, Mercy Ships.

The MV Africa Mercy arrived in Liberia in February where it will remain until the end of November providing free surgeries and healthcare to the people of Liberia. The purpose built Africa Mercy is staffed by volunteer crew.

Three million people live in Liberia but there is little medical care.

Jon will spend 4 months on the Africa Mercy, the world’s largest charity hospital ship.

Jon spent a month in Malaysia building and working in the local community as a volunteer in 2005 with Crusoe, the oversees mission part of the organisation Urban Saints.

At 152m long, the Africa Mercy has accommodation for more than 450 volunteers, six operating theatres and a 78-bed ward.

The volunteers come from more than 40 different countries.

Everyone living on the ship, including the captain, is a volunteer and must pay crew fees for their own accommodation and food, at a cost of around £350 a month, as well as their travel to the ship, insurances, emergency evacuation fund and immunisation costs.

Each volunteer has different skills. Surgeons, dentists and nurses work alongside builders, cooks and cleaners.

The ship is in port for months at a time, usually on the coast of Africa, and people either visit the ship to be treated in its operating theatres and wards or attend land-based surgeries set up by the volunteers.

As well as providing medical care, Mercy Ships volunteers are involved in development programmes in communities, such as digging wells to provide clear drinking water or supplying building materials and skills to help communities recover from conflict.

Jonathan’s role on the ship will be Assistant Cook and Dining Room Steward. He will work 12-hour shifts for 84 hours each fortnight on a rota. On his off rota days he plans to get involved in the community development programmes.

Jon is planning a sponsored bike ride to raise some of the £2720 he needs.

If you wish to help Jon with his financial support, cheques should be made to Mercy Ships UK and sent via the newspaper office or find him at Denbigh Town Football club. Contact number for more information - 01745 814545.

Denbigh Town will probably be without captain and inspiration Mark Orme following an injury that forced him off the field in Wednesday's match at Holyhead Hotspur.

Tony Davies wasn't able to take his place on Wednesday due to a leg injury , so John Roberts slotted into the centre half role. Tony will undergo a fitness test on Saturday.

markormecaptain.jpg

Mark (above) described his situation:

" I went up for a header and as I landed the other lad's weight all went onto my ankle. Luckily I haven`t broke anything but I've got alot of bruising and swelling in the area."

Mark was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd for an X-Ray during the game.

Denbigh Town Reserves midfield 'guv'nor' , the experienced Chris Hughes , has been appointed first team coach at Welsh Premier outfit Caersws FC.

chrihughes.jpg

The Guv'nor.

Whilst sad to lose Chris , we hope that he has a successful time at the mid Wales club , for whom Denbigh's own Jonny Slater is currently playing following his transfer in January from Llandyrnog United.

Chris' duties as First Team Coach will involve training the players , general coaching , taking the warm up , working on tactics and supporting the manager . This will all go towards his Licence Assessment which will be completed next year.

CH cites his goal in the win over Llandyrnog United Reserves as his best moment in a DTFC Reserves shirt. His worst? The 7-2 drubbing at Pen Phoenix.

Hughesy joined Denbigh Town in the 2007-08 season as a midfield general and / or forward. Off the field , Chris is a Sports Development Officer in Wrexham. Highly experienced , his former clubs include Mold Alex , Gresford Athletic , Rhyl FC and Buckley Town.  His honours are legion , and include Welsh National Premier Winners Medal 2000-01 , Cymru Alliance Runners Up 02-03 , North East Wales Winners Medal 02-03 and Cymru Alliance League Cup Runners Up 02-03.

Born on 12th September 1979 , Chris will be an asset to Caersws and we wish him well.

Dyer Delight At Denbigh Dominance.

Manager Tim Dyer , who attended the match on crutches following his accident on the ski slopes last week , was delighted to see his side dominate for the majority of the game.
" It was a good performance all round on Saturday , and I thought we started well and were the better side from start to finish , bar a 10 min spell in the second half.  Playing into the wind first half we kept the ball down and found feet when ever possible and made several good openings."

The Town supremo made of few positional and personnel changes , which seemed to pay off.
"John Roberts was deployed in midfield to allow Ryan (Harden) to play further forward with John protecting the back four. Both players did really well I thought in their respective roles."

Left back has been a problem over a number of weeks so Dyer was pleased to see the returning Matt Gatfield play the full 90 minutes.
" Gatty solved our problem position at left back with an excellent display. I felt if we got one goal we'd get two or three and that proved to be the case. Both front men for Guilsfield were a threat and our back four needed to be one their toes to keep them under wraps. "

Goals win games and the quality of the strikes had the Denbigh boss purring.
"I was pleased with all three  goals I think if anyone deserved a goal in the squad if was Darren (Cassidy). He's done really well for the last couple of months for us. Also Ryan has had to wait a long time for his goal but it was a great finish. I thought Craig (Goodwin) took his really well also."

Looking forward to the midweek fixture at Holyhead , Dyer reports the return of two players whilst there may be a doubt over one.

" Holyhead will be really tough Wednesday. Tony Davies is struggling with a bad ankle injury, but Kevin Evans and Chris O'Brien will be back in the squad. Steve Jones is on the beer in Cheltenham also but who cares."

Probably the linesman.

Denbigh Town will be looking to make it three on the bounce when they entertain league leaders Prestatyn Town at Central Park , kick off 2-30pm.

It will be a big ask , as the visitors are runaway leaders of the Cymru Alliance and look flying certs at this stage to gain automatic promotion to the Welsh Premier.

kennybpenpic.jpg

One man missing from the Denbigh side will be Kenny Burgess (above) . The quiet man has come off the bench to score vital goals in the last two games , so he will be a big miss for Dyer's mob.

The Seasiders are also missing a key player , with Neil Gibson banned.

Striker Lucas Brookes will be facing his former club , whilst PTFC key man Jon Fisher Cooke returns to his former club.

The game at Bastion Road back in September resulted in a 6-1 win for Prestatyn , with Paul Edwards on the scoresheet for Denbigh.

  • Cheques should be made out to MNDA and posted to Ryan at Blaen Ddol, Borthyn, Ruthin, Denbighshire LL15 1NS.  Another way of donating - www.justgiving.com/ryanharden  - you can donate safely on line this way.

Manager Dyer Speaks EXCLUSIVELY! (one joking)

Denbigh Manager Tim Dyer was satisfied with the result against Guilsfield  and in particular with the work ethic put in by his troops.

timdyer.jpg

" I was very please with result on Saturday , I think we worked really hard for it and we had to , as Guilsfield put us under a lot of pressure in the middle third of the game either side of half time. They were the better team during that period but we defended well and the difference on the day was when we got on top we took our chances, unlike last week. "

The Town supremo rang some changes in the starting XI.

" We made some changes on Saturday and in general I felt they came off with a positive effect, Chris O’Brien and Kevin Evans were dominant early on in the centre of the park. Lucas was lively up front with Ian and John Roberts solid at the back. "

" We were disappointed with how we allowed them back into the game that we’d dominated , until we conceded the penalty that came from our own corner. We have set routines for corners and for some reason we did something we don’t normally do with personnel that are not normally involved in the routines , and it all went wrong for us and could have cost us the game. "

It didn't as Town ran out 3-1 winners , though just after half time , the Guils were more up for it.

" Overall though I think we deserved the 3 points even though they will feel they could have got in front as they had the better of the start of the second half with the scores at 1-1. But once we had regained the upper hand we never looked back. All 3 substitutes Ryan (Harden) , Darren (Cassidy) and Kenny (Burgess) came on and made vital contributions to the result. "

ryan2.jpg

Looking forward to the midweek fixture at Buckley , Tim has a strong squad to choose from.

" We’ll travel to Buckley with the same 16 man Squad as on Saturday , with all 3 subs staking a claim for a starting place. The only doubt is Tony Davies came off Saturday with a bit of a strain to his thigh. Matty Gatfield may be added to the squad if he is home from University. "

Denbigh Town Reserves play their first home fixture of the year when they take on Flint Town United Reserves at Central Park on Saturday , kick off 2pm.

Flint are a dangerous prospect and their previous game saw them defeat Abergele Rovers away from home by 4-2. But Denbigh will be confident by virtue of their own record in front of goal - 10 in the last three games.

Manager Tony Sheridan has almost a full squad from which to pick - only Marc Grief is absent , nursing a broken toe. James Hewitt is added to the squad.

Flint will be looking for Lee Molyneux to continue his scoring form - the Cae Castell hitman has registered 13 goals in the league this term thus far.

There will be a canteen run on Saturday so hot & cold drinks and some cold snacks will be available.

Last week's game at Penmaenmawr Phoenix is reported in this week's Denbighshire Free Press , with the full report online via the www.denbighshirefreepress.co.uk

Manager Tim Dyer gives his reaction to Saturday's result against Flint T.U. and looks forward to the away day match up at Guilsfield.

" I was disappointed with Saturday - I  think expectations were high after couple of big wins in the cup games , but to be fair ,  Flint were much the better team in the first half and although we had an effort cleared off the line ,  I think they deserved to be in front. However second half was a different story and the only thing that was missing from our game was the killer touch. We made several opportunities and really should have been level on several occasions. Our best chances fell to Kenny (Burgess) , Lucas (Brookes)and Mike (Lundstram)."

Burgess : Juggler

Manager Dyer was not happy that Flint Town began with the better tempo.

"We can’t afford to give good sides like Flint a head start and effectively that’s what we did with our first half performance. I think when you consider our best 2 players on the day were Matt Gatfield and Lucas Brookes and they both came off the bench it tells the story, we just didn’t start right."

Looking forward to next week , the Denbigh Supremo will be looking for a more positive start to the game and maybe a shake up of his team.

Luke O'Mahoney : Leaning

" We have plenty of options to make some changes and possibly that’s what we’ll need to do to ensure we start the next game more positively. A number of players are pushing for a start - Lucas Brookes, John Roberts, Darren Cassidy and Chris O’Brien."

One man who will be hoping to shrug off his knock is little magician Ryan Harden who had to be carried off after 20 minutes last Saturday with a leg injury.

" We’ll have to see how Ryan’s injury is later in the week before deciding if he is fit to play. Adam Jones is also absent and Paul Edwards remains sidelined."

Denbigh Town Reserves welcome back Tom Sheridan and Brett Jones to the ranks for their away day fixture at Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

Town will be looking to carry on the form that saw them bag five goals in a great win at Mochdre last Saturday. Lucas Brookes steps up to first team duty but Denbigh have enough about them to grab a result at Cae Sling against the only unbeaten club in the Premier. Mark Grief has a broken toe.

Pen boast the Premier's top scorer in Ritchie Roberts with 14 league goals from 11 games.

Denbigh Town FC in Local Music Drive

IF Music Be The Food Of Love then Denbigh Town FC are adding to the picnic by showcasing local talent at Central Park , writes Peter Glynn.
Peter and Paul ( still looking for Mary) , who organise the public address and pre-match and half time entertainment , are now playing tunes composed and recorded in the Denbigh area.
" We thought it was a simple yet effective way of helping to support local individuals and bands - it is something that the club can do at each home game."

Chris Wood & Ben Williams
Peter is keen that people who would be willing to have their music played to contact him.
" At the last match we played stuff by Denbigh High School students Chris Wood and Ben Williams , and also a song by John Evans. These are local recorded artists , and only three of a number here in Denbigh. Anyone who is interested can send me an mp3 file and we can add it to a growing play list."

The Gaffer Speaks!

A great win for Denbigh Town in Saturday's NWCFA CC 2nd Round had Manager Tim Dyer purring:

" Another good all round performance  I thought even if it did become a little laboured in the second half. It is sometimes difficult when you are so much on top to keep the tempo in the game throughout the 90mins. "

Up front Town are looking hot and the Denbigh gaffer thought Ian Evans' opener was something special.

" Massive plus points are that Ian and Kenny are working really well up front , scoring regular and combining well.  Ian’s first goal was the sort of finish worthy to win a game on it’s own, and Kenny’s movement to the near post for Luke’s cross was instinctive. And the quality of Luke's (O'Mahoney) cross was impssible to defend."

kennybpenpic.jpg

Links Effect : Kenny B latched onto Luke's cross to convert.

Tim Dyer was happy to see two of his new recruits in action after delays in recent weeks due to the weather.

" Craig Goodwin had a good solid game contributing well in defence and also when he played the last 3rd up front. Chris O’Brien looked very assured in midfield when he came on in the second half , so I think both players will be reasonably happy with their debuts. "

Goodwin starred in good win

News filtered through that Dyer's other signing had bagged a hatful in Reserve team action , and believes that the former Prestatyn Town youngster will be a big hit in a Denbigh shirt.

" Lucas Brookes made a massive statement by scoring 4 for the Reserves and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Ian and Kenny have gone up a level since he arrived at the club. Lucas has had a frustrating time since signing for us in January ,  not being able to play due to postponements and being cup tied and I believe he’ll have a massive impact for us this season. "

Looking forward to the next game , a Cymru Alliance home mtch up with Flint Town United , Tim has a pleasant problem to contend with.

"Squad selection will be tough next week as competition for places is very tough just at the moment and that hopefully will drive us in the right direction. "

Tom Sheridan misses his first game of the season , but Manager Tony Sheridan otherwise has a strong squad to choose from , including Lucas Brookes who is cup tied for the first team's match against Pwllheli in the NWCFA Cup Quarter Final.

Matt Toole returns from first team duties and Justin Jones is also available.

'JJ' : Back for Denbigh Town Reserves

Mochdre use a big pitch so supremo Sheridan is looking forward to the Denbigh lads using their pace as well as continuing the good football.

" Delivery will be key. Denbigh have the players to get quality into the box for the strikers to feed on. On this pitch , this will suit us.  We have a strong squad though we are minus Tom who's height we will miss and also his work rate. But we have the squad to get a result for ourselves. We have pace , ability and Justin also returning is a big boost. "

Mr. G.M. Gray is tomorrow's referee.

The Denbighshire Free Press included a photo of Brett Jones in last week's match report , whilst the Vale Advertiser gave a good write up along with an excellent headline. Thanks to both papers for their continued support , espoecially Shaun Davies and Dave Jones , respective Sports Editors.

Denbigh Town have swooped for Tony Davies and Chris O'Brien , both from Llangefni Town.

Tony Davies returns to Central Park after just one month at Llangefni.

Chris O'Brien is has experience at Colwyn Bay, an ex-Liverpool trainee who also played for Chester and Droylsden before joining Llangefni in January 2008.

This adds to last weeks signings of Craig Goodwin from Bala Town & Lucas Brookes from Prestatyn Town.

Manager Tim Dyer was very pleased with Saturday's performance and had this to say today:

" It was a good solid team performance on Saturday ,  given we only had one out of the regular back four playing in position . I was delighted with a clean sheet, and performance of Kevin Evans at the back. "

Town were back to their best going forward. Six nil may have been a little tough on Buckley , but at times Denbigh were irresistable and were playing their best stuff of the season.

timdyer.jpg

Boss Tim Dyer

" Going forward Luke O’Mahoney was a class above rest and really ripped them apart and was a big goal threat.  He scored one and was involved in all four first half goals. Kenny Burgess also I thought did well with his movement - he created great space for himself - and another pleasing thing is that others on the pitch also had scoring chances. "

Boss Dyer has added two players to the squad and is excited by his new signings.

" The reaction of some of the players to the fact we have brought in some new faces  was exactly what we were looking for - and adding Lucas Brookes and Craig Goodwin to the squad next week will strengthen our hand considerably!! "

Looking forward to next Saturday , a Cymru Alliance home fixture against Gresford Athletic , Manager Dyer is optimistic that a repeat of Saturday's effort will do very nicely though two individuals will be absent.

" Kevin Evans is away next Saturday ( on a skiing holiday ) and John Roberts again will be missing due to work commitments. A home game is just what I’d have wanted after a performance like Saturday's -  and we’ll be looking to continue from where we left off.

Postponements have held back Denbigh from getting into a groove and Boss Dyer is targeting some points to give the Cymru Alliance table some semblance of reality.

" We need points to get us back up the table having played just 2 league games in 9 weeks due to weather and cup commitments.  We have slipped down the league table as a result so it's up to us to put points on the board to show that our current position is a false one , especially as we have 7 games in hand on some teams. But until the points are on the board not much we can do about it!!

Denbigh Town FC would like to extend a Happy New Year to all supporters and look forward to a successful 2008.
Manager Tim Dyer is boosted by the return to full fitness of Kevin Evans and the midfielder is added to the squad for the Saturday 5th January  NWCFA Cup First Round match at Central Park against Halkyn United , kick off at 1-30pm.
Town were again left frustrated by the weather which caused the postponement of their away fixture at Llanfair PG on Saturday , due to a waterlogged pitch.
One man who will be absent on Saturday is Town's central defender Tony Davies (pictured) , who has signed for Welsh Premier League side Llangefni Town. Davies , previously with Bala Town , was a firm favourite with the fans for his no nonsense defending and coolness under pressure , and his presence will be a big miss as Denbigh look to kick on after consolidating in the first half of the Cymru Alliance season. Llangefni are struggling at the foot of the Premier League and new Manager Alex Kevan and his assistant , former Liverpool player Phil Boersma , targetted Davies in a bid to tighten up their leaky defence.

Town Reserves take on Penmaenmawr Phoenix on Saturday at Central Park , kick off 2pm. A dry week will probably ensure that the game goes ahead and that must be a frustration for the first team who will be without a game for three weeks , this week being a free weekend.

Pen have enjoyed a good season thus far - they are the only unbeaten team in the Division , having played 9 , won 6 and drawn 3. This will be a stern test for Denbigh Town Reserves.

The visitors boast the Clwyd Premier's top goal scorer - Ritchie Roberts who has bagged 9 league goals together with 3 cup goals.

The referee for the game is Shaun Cousins. The canteen will be open so please pop along and support the Town and buy a cup of tea off me!

Heavy downpours over the past few days have put both Denbigh Town FC games in jeopady , with the BBC forecasting more rain to come on Friday and Saturday.

Central Park is hosting Gresford Athletic in the Cymru Alliance , whilst the Reserves visit Halkyn United Reserves  - but both games will now be subject to a pitch inspection on Saturday to determine whether or not play is able to go ahead.

Cymru Alliance rules stipulate that pitch inspections should take place at the last possible moment , but in such time to prevent the away side travelling. It is likely that Central Park will be inspected at 11am Saturday and a decision made soon afterwards. It isn't yet know when Halkyn intend to inspect.

On Thursday , parts of the Rec were under water , whilst hundreds of seagulls had migrated in from the coast and had settled onto the Central Park pitch , schools pitches and top pitch.

The road to Nantglyn was flooded last evening after hours of persistant rain , requiring the attendance of Denbigh Fire Crews.

Oh dear! Under the headline ' Fat Ladies Too ' ,  Denbigh Town FC Bingo Night made the Denbighshire Free Press News In Brief section , referring to the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies demonstration to members of Denbigh Floral Art Club in Denbigh Town Hall.

" ...demonstrator Rosemarie Tree  of Birmingham delighted all with her floral interpretations of Advent for Christmas. To the amusement of the large audience , her microphone picked up Peter Glynn , the bingo caller in full flow. She coped well with the interruptions of 'legs eleven' and 'two fat ladies'.

Apologies to the Floral Art Club for the interruptions. The problem has now been sorted so no longer will Bingo be heard three hundred yards away in the Town Hall.

For accuracy , the term 'Two Fat Ladies' is no longer used as it is deemed politically incorrect by the Thought Police. It is now ' All The Eights' , and players respond with  'Wobble Wobble'.

Denbigh Town Football Club is the latest name to apply for promotion to the Welsh Premier at the end of the season. Prestatyn Town, Bala Town, Llandudno Town, Flint Town United and Gap Queens Park have all applied for elevation to the top flight, as well as eighth-placed Holyhead Hotspur and Denbigh's opponents on Saturday , Penrhyncoch.

A spokesman for the club said “We have registered our intent , we are sending the message out that we have ambition and we want to progress as a club both on and off the field. Our ultimate aim is Welsh Premier status."

Feedback to the announcement has been swift and positive: Your feedback would also be welcome.

"What an honour it would be to see Denbigh up there. You've got the facilities, my concern would be the car parking, might u be able to develop some of the rec for that?

Good luck Pete , Dave."

The Gaffer speaks:

" Well what can I say after a game such as that?

I felt first half we played well without getting the rewards we deserved and the main reason for that was some awful finishing. We really should have been in a comfortable position by half time and we should have been able to relax. Then when Lex got themselves going we found it hard to contain them. We picked up 2 injuries at the back (Tony Davies and Tommy Harrison) and that meant the game became just an end to end tussle that could have swung either way.

Thankfully we came out with the points and I have to give the lads credit for that , as they stuck at it and kept playing when it looked like it wasn’t going to be our day. Scoring goals at crucial times in games is something we are still struggling to do on the whole , and even though we scored 4 times on Saturday , we should have scored earlier and the game would of taken a different course ,  I feel , as we were well on top.

Injuries at the back will be a major concern for this weekend as Adam Jones was missing at Lex XI ,  along with Matt Gatfield and now Tony Davies and Tommy Harrison have picked up knocks. "

Reserves face a tough away day fixture at Rhyl Nomads at Coronation Gardens , kick off 2pm , writes Peter Glynn.

Nomads lie 6th in the Premier Division , 8 points ahead of Denbigh with a game in hand and will be a tough proposition for Tony Sheridan's men who currently occupy 11th spot. Both outfits lost last weekend and will be desperate to bounce back - Town were sunk at home against enigmatic Mochdre Sports 0-3 , whilst Nomads went down to an odd goal in three at Prestatyn Town Reserves , having taken an early lead through Owen Jones.

Assistant Manager Dean Martin

Dean Martin spoke after the game and pinpointed the second half that saw Denbigh Town prevail against visitors Buckley Town.

" The lads responded really well to the half time team talk. We did everything right , the balls were good going in  , we asked quetions of their defence instead of them asking questions of ours.  A good performance. You cannot pick a man of the match  today , it belongs to the eleven players who were out there -  it was a team effort."

markormecaptain.jpg

Mark Orme - Denbigh skipper

Mark Orme :

" We were behind twice - a lot of times this season we have gone behind - so it was good character to bounce back. To be fair , we were the better side by a mile , but we gave them a couple of cheap goals."

On his winner , the Denbigh skipper said:

" Yes its quite a while since I 've got one - I think its's the first for me in the league this season. A great knock back by Tony (Davies) - I knew he was going to win it so it was just a case of making sure I was in the right place."

"We were the better side from start to finish and we just have to get out of this habit of giving teams a start. But it was a good win."

Meanwhile the Cymru Alliance website have reported that the Bucks have been deducted three points for fielding an illegal player , subject to appeal to the FAW. This drops Buckley down to third bottom on 8 points. Denbigh Town sit fifth in the table with 18 points.

Post Match Reaction

Following Denbigh Town's 1-0 win at Glantraeth , Manager Tim Dyer spoke of the work rate and the amount of chances we are creating - but pointed to a defensive display that ultimately gave his side the three points.

"It was a bit nail biting to say the least!!! We worked really hard and having seen the match reports from both Glantraeth and the Daily Post  , I think someone is forgetting the amount of chances we had ourselves. Yes ,  they did have a lot of possession but of the clear cut chances , I think we had more than them over 90 mins."

To keep a clean sheet was all important and Dyer heaped praise on Captain Mark Orme and his partner in central defence , John Roberts.

" John Roberts and Mark Orme were superb in defence. I think the match as a whole was similar to our games with Gresford Athletic and Ruthin Town -  only this time the opposition had more of the play. The team spirit was excellent - everyone worked really hard especially after we lost Kevin Evans with a badly cut foot. Mike Lundstram played 65 mins with a damaged knee , so I expect both player will be missing for a minimum of  2 to 3 weeks. The squad is stretched to the limit at the moment. "

One man likely to return is big central defender Tony Davies.

" Tony will be back in the squad for Saturday but as yet we are not sure on Darren Cassidy’s fitness so we will see how things sit on Wednesday night at training.  We may also look to recruit from the Reserves ,  dependent on availability and injuries of the existing squad. "

Looking forward to Saturday , Manager Dyer stated that the match against Buckley will be a hard fixture and he had good things to say about old adversary Simon Sedgwick , the Buckley boss.

"Buckley will be another tough game but one we definitely have to target a win from and we’ll be renewing our rivalry with ex- Rhyl Reserves boss Simon Sedgwick.  He’ll be back at Central Park for first time since we beat Rhyl to basically win the league and gain promotion last season. Simon has done a rebuilding job at Buckley this year after most of last year's squad left when Dave Taylor went to  Caersws. Simon appears to have Buckley heading in the right direction with some promising results and I think Buckley will be a top half of the table team this year , and given Simon has had to start from scratch that’s a decent position. "

Mark Orme was also full of praise after the game:

"It was a tough game. We could have scored a couple more in the first half but it was a big defensive effort in the second. Special mention to Jamie Hulse and John Roberts who were both superb."

"Conceding early goals is never going to make life easy." Manager Tim Dyer believes that concentration is key in the early minutes of the games , which would make things a little more straight forward. But he concedes there is a feeling of frustration inasmuch that most were expecting three points against the bottom placed team.

"All the players were really frustrated on Saturday.  It was a game we had been expected to win and not to do so was a disappointment. However , giving goals away in the first minute is never going to make life easy. "

Despite conceding after 90 seconds , Town responded quickly , with Ian Evans poucing to give Denbigh parity 5 minutes later.

"We recovered well enough from that setback and I felt first half that we always looked a threat on the attack. However I felt the second half was a different story as Gresford played a lot deeper and we didn’t get behind them as much. Consequently we didn’t make clear cut opportunities."

Match Report

Switzerland grabbed their second win of the UEFA Ladies Championship Group 4 by defeating Wales Ladies 2-0 at Rhyl FC's Belle Vue stadium. Wales remain pointless but will be hoping for a better result on Wednesday v Belgium.
The Swiss edged in front on 40 minutes courtesy of a bizarre goal from No 4. Rahel Graf who plays for  FC Luwin. The ball bounced over goalkeeper Nicola Davies , settling into the back of the net. It had been a hopeful punt into the box from a free kick from Rahel but she took it with glee.

TinyPic image

The Swiss were the more composed of the two sides and secured their win on the 82nd minute with a great run from Martina Moser, skinning two defenders and slipping the ball past Nicola Davies.

TinyPic image

Martina Moser

Coach Beatrice Von Siebenthal was totally delighted and not a little relieved when that went in , you could see the pressure lift and her delight all over her face. Jayne Ludlow had two chances - one in ech half - but Marisa Brunner in the Swiss goal stood up well and snaffled the ball. On 87 minutes , Switzerland's Ramona Bachmann saw red following a second yellow card - for wasting time or messing about with the ball at a free kick - twas a bit harsh to say the least - but the game was over as a contest and there was a lot of jubilation from the Swiss team , and management and Swiss FA officials on a job well done on and off the field.

My 'Man' of the Match. A toughie - Marisa for being a really strong keeper , Rahel was excellent and strong in defence all afternoon. Ramona ran her socks off up front. The best quality of the game was Martina's goal , 'twas an exceptional run and clinical finish.

I'd give it to Rahel for 90 minutes defence and of course her fortunate goal.

Denbigh Go International!

Central Park played host to the Switzerland Women's Football Team in their preparation for their match at Belle Vue against Wales in the UEFA Women's Championship Group 4.
Under Coach Beatrice Von Siebenthal (appointed in 2004) , the Swiss have done well in the group , drawing with Holland and beating Belgium , though they took a hammering against mighty Germany , 0-7.
Swiss Ladies Football is becoming increasingly popular in the country best known for clocks , punctual trains , snow and cheese. Experienced goalie Marisa Brunner is the current Swiss Ladies Footballer of the Year and the glovewearer is popular enough in her own right to command a page dedicated to her on Wikipedia. Meanwhile,  Coach Von Siebenthal , not only a top class trainer and manager , was the Tournament Director of the UEFA U-19's Finals in 2006 so is thoroughy steeped in the beautiful game on a number of scores. And team captain Prisca Steineggar is a 2004 FIFA Women All Stars team member , coming on as sub to help the All Stars defeated a Germany XI 3-2 in the Centenery of FIFA celebration match in the Stade de France , Paris.
Welcoming the Ladies to Denbigh , the Mayor , Cllr. Colin Hughes said it was a honour for the club to host such guests - and it was a testament to the pitch , the facilities and the committee that Central Park should be selected by the Welsh FA to help the visitors in their pre-match preparations.

Denbigh's Mayor , Cllr. Colin Hughes  welcomed the Swiss Ladies Football Team to Central Park on Friday  prior to their match UEFA Women's Championship Group 4 match with Wales at Belle Vue , Rhyl on Sunday.

Cllr. Hughes said it was a testament to the pitch and facilities that Central Park should be selected to host pre-match training.

The Cymru Alliance Website Reports:

On Friday afternoon 26th October Denbigh played hosts to The Switzerland National Ladies Squad allowing the team to use their Central Park ground for a two and half hours Training Session. Not only did they have the National Team but they also brought two Swiss Football Association members to Central Park were they were shown around the ground and asked this club have its ambitions. They asked about the Cymru Alliance league and how many teams were in the league. They had a very good afternoons training at Central Park.
This is another honour for one of our league clubs to be asked by the Welsh FA if we could allow the Switzerland Ladies our ground and what we have.
Wales Ladies will play the Swiss at Rhyl on Sunday 28th. October

Denbigh Town's Luke O'Mahoney was once again selected for the North Wales Coast FA U18s for their match against North East Wales FA Under 18s in the triangular tournament , having beaten Central Wales 2-1 in Newtown a fortnight ago.

The game finished 1-0 to the NWCFA youngsters and although Luke did not get on the scoresheet on this occasion , he put in an excellent performance in left sided midfield.

Team Denbigh were in evidence to lend morale and physical support to the Denbigh Town player. It was a cold night but the company was excellent & the football entertaining. The coffee and cheeseburgers were very welcome.

No offence but the PA isn't a patch on Denbigh's (nor the announcer) and the pitch isn't as good as cCentral Park. The stands ( by www.aas-spectator.com) were very good. A nice ground with superb catering and clubhouse facilities , with bar , tv lounge , cafe. An excellent set up.

Here are some photographs of the night.

The Daily Post's Monday's Match Round-Up of the Roger Jones Cymru Alliance League Cup from the week end led with Denbigh Town's 2-1 win over Llanfair PG , so thank you to Dave Jones for the report and lead.

TinyPic image

Mark Orme

Meanwhile , Peter spoke to Mark Orme after Saturday's match and Denbigh's Captain referred to the 'moment of the match' - Ben Heald's save from Mike Lundstram:

"It was an unbelievable save from their keeper. From where I was standing it looked in all the way. It's a shame for Mike as his performance deserved a goal, but if he carries on playing the way he is then I'm sure the goals will come."

TinyPic image

Mike Lundstram

Mr. Orme also mentioned his fellow central defender:

"My partnership with Tony (Davies) is starting to come together really well. He is a quality defender and it's always good to be surrounded by players of that ability. Its been frustrating the last couple of games that Ruthin and Llanfair only really had one chance each and took them, so it would be nice to start getting some clean sheets, starting at Gresford on Saturday hopefully."

Manager Tim Dyer was a happier man after Denbigh Town's 2-1 win over a battling Llanfair PG side at the weekend.

"I was happy with the overall performance on Saturday and  I thought the whole squad worked really hard for the full 90 minutes. In the first half we were lacking a little quality in our play at vital times , but we continued to work hard and created enough chances to win more comfortably. Jamie Hobson worked really hard in the centre of the park and Kevin Evans popped up with 2 excellent goals. Kenny Burgess I thought had his best performance for sometime. Mike Lundstrum worked the PG back line solid for 90 minutes and was involved in just about every move we created. "

  jhobson.jpgkennybpenpic.jpgmlundstram.jpg

Hobson: Hard Worker + Burgess: Best game for sometime + Lundstram: Involved in everything

Dyer is looking to kick on and is confident the players will carry on putting in some good performances.

"We have to build on this now. On a positive note we are unbeaten in last 3 after the nightmare performance in Prestatyn. That has to be a positive - and we need to go to Gresford on Saturday with the right attitude and I think we can get 3 points there."

The loss of  an important midfielder in Paul Edwards is one Denbigh could do without at this stage of the season and , with Andy Booker having joined Rhyl FC , Dyer is looking to add to a now depleted squad, but all thoughts must be with the man Edwards for the cruel injury he sustained.

"We are hoping to strengthen the squad after the sad news that we’ve lost Paul Edwards for the season with a knee injury, but thankfully it’s not the same knee that Paul had surgery on in the summer. But it’s a massive loss for the club , as Paul is one of the best midfielders in the League. We are unable to sign players from the Welsh Pyramid after midnight on Wednesday ,  so we may look to the Unibond League for players. "

The League Cup match at Central Park will be an opportunity for Town to avenge a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Llanfairpwll earlier this season. Manager Dyer will be looking for his strikers to come alive - goals win games and the Town boss will be sending out the message that it is time for his front men to deliver the goods.

Two doubts for the game - engine Paul Edwards is definately missing after picking up a knee injury against Ruthin. Darren Cassidy hopes to be fit after picking up a knock in the same game , Andy Booker has joined Welsh Alliance outfit Rhyl Reserves but otherwise Tim Dyer has a full compliment to choose from.

Kick off is 2pm.

Tony Sheridan's Denbigh Town Reserves travel to Flint Town Reserves on Saturday without the in-form Lee Mason who picked up a groin injury at Aston Park Rangers. Manager Sheridan pointed to some excellent performances in the 5-2 defeat at quality Rangers - in particular he was happy with the never say die attitude of his youngsters who for long periods controlled the game and , if they had taken their chances , may have pulled off a shock result.

The Clwyd Premier is a step up in class and the Reserves are more than holding their own. Though results are important , Manager Sheridan is also keen to see his charges develop and hopefully go on to play at a higher level.

Midweek Training takes place on Wednesday evening for the first team and Thursday for the Reserves.

Lilywhites Online reports today that left winger Andy Booker has signed for Rhyl FC.

The blogsite , run by Dave Jones , offers the daily news from Belle Vue at: http://lilywhites.northwalesblogs.co.uk so fans of the youngster will be able to follow his progress at the Welsh Premier club. Initially , Booker will join the Stazicker and Ainsworth Reserve outfit but with first team boss Hulse a fan , there may be an opportunity for to test his luck in first team duties.

    Andy Booker

RHYL FC have announced the signing of left-sided specialist Andy Booker.
Among the youngster's ex-clubs are Rhuddlan Town, where current Rhyl Reserves managers Jon Stazicker and James Ainsworth were in charge when Booker was there, so it will be reunion time for all three.

Booker has also played for Denbigh Town in the Welsh Alliance and Cymru Alliance, but has decided to give it a go at Belle Vue.
He will join the reserve team squad, but with John Hulse a confirmed admirer, there could be bigger things down the line for the young talent.
"Myself and James rate Andrew as a great player, and John Hulse does too," said Jon Stazicker.
"We're very pleased to have him on board for the reserves, though we both feel Andrew's ability could push him towards the first team at some point."

Manager Dyer was disappointed that goals are not flowing.
"The players were very disappointed not to have won on Saturday , although we were nowhere near our best. I felt we had the upper hand throughout the match all bar a 10 min spell midway way through the first half. We had a number of decent efforts at goal but really that is were our problems lie at the moment - we are just not scoring enough. You’ll always be hard pressed to win games just scoring once and we need to do better in that area. "
Dyer was quick to praise the big man at the back , who is making a reputation for himself.
"There were some excellent individual performances none more so than Tony Davies who I thought was outstanding and on another day could have scored 3 himself. The loss of Paul Edwards at half time was a big blow as the energy Paul gives us in midfield is irreplaceable. "

TinyPic image

Tony Davies wins a header as Denbigh push for a win.

Tim Dyer thought Ruthin Town did well. "On the other side of the coin I think we need to give some credit to Ruthin as they defended well and they also had some good individual performances , such as Edwart Jones, Mark Entwhistle and the debutant Gary Ellison. So on the day I’m sure they felt that the effort they’d put in warranted some reward. However I felt if we’d of scored during all the pressure in the second half , I think they would of found it difficult to recover the deficit. "

Games come thick and fast and there is no time to look back - only forward. And it looks as if one influential member of the squad will be struggling after picking up a knee injury.

"We must move on and we have another big game this week in the League Cup tie, and we’ll almost certainly be without Paul Edwards but I expect everyone else to report fit in training Wednesday night. "

The Denbighshire Free Press' Poll posing the question of who will come out on top in the Vale of Clwyd Derby has pointed towards a Denbigh Town win.

Meanewhile , whilst anything can happen in derby matches , Ruthin Town manager Brian Buzz Griffiths believes , according the reports in the local Vale Advertiser , that his Ruthin team are firm underdogs. He will no doubt be using that piece of information to gee up his troops for the Ruth's visit to Central Park.

Buzz may also point to the online Free Press poll if further motivation is needed in this eagerly awaited game.

Players representing the two town's clubs have been interchangeable over decades - but that will not prevent a full blooded match with neighbourly bragging rights up for grabs in the pubs in the Vale.

Tim Dyer will be looking for his men to impose themselves on the game early doors and he will be expecting a full 90 minutes effort , with the passing game on the superb surface of Central Park key to the Denbighites bringing home the bacon.

Result of the Poll: Who Will Win The Cymru Alliance Derby:

Ruthin 24%

Denbigh 61%

Draw 15%

O'Mahoney In Call Up to NWCFA U-18 Team

Denbigh Town's young gun Luke O'Mahoney is making a name for himself in North Wales Representative Football , representing the NWCFA U-18 team in their match up with Central Wales FA U-18 at Latham Park , Newtown on Tuesday evening , 2nd October.

TinyPic image

Luke in action at Central Park

Obviously this is an achievement for Luke but it is also a feather in the cap of the Central Park club , and with the youngster already having scored three Cymru Alliance goals so far this term it is no surprise that the NWCFA came calling.

Luke was obviously delighted with his call up , and also the result which saw the North Walians overcome their rivals in a close 2-1 victory.

"The game was played at the Newtown FC ground against Mid Wales U-18 with a 7:30pm kick-off. The pitch was in top condition and there were no excuses for not playing football on a pitch like that. I was operating down the left side of midfield which I've played most of my career and it made a nice change from the striking role at Denbigh.

In the first half we had the upper hand and played some decent , quick football . I was able to get the ball in good positions and go past players quite easily and create chances for the team. It was about 20 mins in and I played a 1- 2 , and went past a couple of players in a central position and then checked onto my left foot and let fly from about 30 yards scoring in the top corner which was a great highlight for me and was able to showcase my abilities.

We remained on top and the second goal was another good move finished off by Matt Cassidy who rounded the keeper and put the ball in the empty net. The second half was a half which belonged to the Mid-Wales side and they dominated us , having lots of possesion without really making any clear-cut chances like we were able to , until a goalkeeping mistake allowed them to score early on bringing them back into the game.

They were a very fit side and began to stretch us without really taking any advantage and this suited us countering them and we created a few chances , one which I forced a good save from the goalkeeper from a surging run , which became ever harder with two defenders doubling up on me. With some good defending and a battling spirit we were able to hold onto the victory with 2-1 win."

Not only has Luke a bright future on the field , but obviously will become a sports reporter of some note in future years!

They're back! Tommy Harrison and Tony Davies are back in the squad following suspension and injury respectively.

Tommy was forced to sit out last week's encounter at Flint due to the number of yellows he had accumulated over the past few weeks. Tony , meanwhile , had been named as substitute for the game but had no chance of getting onto the pitch due to a calf injury that has plagued him over the past three weeks.

Tony Davies & Tommy Harrison: Raring To Go.

Both looked raring to go at Wednesday night's training session - as did Paul Edwards who was replaced late on with a knock on his (other) knee. Davies , Harrison & Edwards had a stern workout with no reaction to report.

Dean Martin led the training session , with fitness , ballwork , soccer skills and tactics on the agenda under the floodlights of the sports ground at DHS.

Dyer now has a full complement of staff to choose from on Saturday and will have some tough choices to make after an overall good performance at Cae y Castell.

Meanwhile Luke O'Mahoney has called up to represent the NWCFA Under 18 squad. More details will follow as soon as they come in , but it is a feather in Luke's cap and also a representative honour for Denbigh Town Football Club.

The BIG Match!

Pre Match Build Up

Town welcome back two big names for their home derby encounter with old foes Ruthin Town , with Tommy Harrison & Tony Davies returning after suspension and injury respectively. Ryan Harden had a solid performance last week so looks set to continue alongside Paul Edwards in the middle of the park.
Denbigh have a lot of choises out wide and up front so Manager Dyer has some difficult decisions to make. And Dyer is hoping for a big crowd to help his boys in what will be a tricky match , being a local derby and the intensity and pressure that derby games create.

Tim Dyer believes last Saturday's draw at Flint was a fair outcome.
" Saturday was a bit of a slog for both sides , with defences on top. It was a poor playing surface which didn't help the flow of the game , and though obviously disappointed to take a lead into injury time and then to concede , well , as I say , it was probably a fair result."
Dyer says his men are looking forward to the big derby against Ruthin Town.
" Hopefully we can get our passing game going at Central Park which we failed to do at Flint. Everyone at the club is looking forward to the game , and Dean , Steve and myself will all be at the game - only the third time this season we have all been together."
Dyer believes the match will be a close encounter and hopes home support will give Denbigh an edge.
timdyer.jpgdeanmartin.jpgsjones.jpg
" I think Ruthin have done well so far this season - they have picked up some useful points in tricky games -  and with the game being a local derby I’m expecting a tight game , well contested. We have the home advantage and it will be up to us to dictate the pace of the game , but we'll only do that if we approach the game in the right manner. Let's hope for a good crowd to get behind our lads and get those three points on the board."

A local Councillor is urging members of the footballing public to come out in droves to support a club's push for a Welsh Premiership berth.
Cllr. Peter Glynn , who is also a Committee member of Denbigh Town Football Club , says that the time is now at hand for the town of Denbigh to push for the top echelon in Welsh soccer.
" At the moment , the club is playing at it's highest possible league - the Cymru Alliance. The Reserves are also in their top league , the Clwyd Premier. If the Town are to kick on , then it is essential that we get the support through the turnstiles and in off field activities , because I can guarantee that if we were to get two to three hundred through the gates , we'd be in the Welsh Premiership in a matter of two or three years. That's a fact and that's the goal."
Ground improvements would be needed for the Vale club to progress and Cllr. Glynn says that a show of support at games from the public would be vital in attracting grants from the FAW and Sports Lotteries for projects that need completing before promotion would be available.
" People are already working flat out on grant applications , but money through the turnstile is the life blood of the club - it brings in the income but it also lifts the players on the pitch , which is another reason why I want people here on match days."
Cllr. Glynn acts as PA Announcer at games and is also involved in another off field activities in aid of the club - bingo caller.
" There are various ways of supporting us - we have Bingo on Tuesday evenings at the Cons Club which starts at 7-45pm , we have player and management sponsorship deals , club membership , weekly 5 match forecast , monthly draw. Again , we need as much support in these activities as possible."
Meanwhile , Club Secretary Ally Bennett is seeking to add to the merry band of the Committee as promotion to the Cymru Alliance has brought extra work in organising matches.
" We would really benefit for two or three extra hands on match days and for fundraising. We are on the verge of something here , we have the momentum and we need to fulfill our potential. Come and join us."

Denbigh Town go into the Lion's Den on Saturday in the Welsh Cup 1st Round encounter at Bala Town. The Maes Tegid outfit will be red hot favourites , having had a superb start to their Cymru Alliance campaign , together with the fact that they have already beaten Denbigh Town in their early season match up.
Manager Tim Dyer will know that his team will have to be at their very best to progress past the first round stage and is seeking a performance from his young side:

Dyer: Hopeful
" Obviously Bala Town away was always going to be a tough draw - probably the toughest we could have had. They are a good unit , have had a great start to the season , so in some senses we are going there with nothing to lose. We have to be at our best to match them because , yes , some have given us the label of under dogs , but in Cup football anything can happen so I hope for a great performance from our boys to get us a result."

Meanwhile , the Central Park club have been boosted by news that Tony Davies has committed himself to Denbigh Town , with Bangor City seeking to sign the impressive central defender.

Davies: Influential
Dyer is delighted to retain such an influential figure:
" Tony has been superb for us this season and to lose him would have been a huge blow. The Management , Players , Committee and Supporters are all delighted he has turned down a move to stay with Denbigh. It is a big fillip for us."

Town have a number of injury worries ahead of their huge Welsh Cup encounter at Bala Town on Saturday.

Central defender Tony Davies is absent with a calf injury. Davies has picked up a number of nasty knocks during his short time at Central Park , the latest keeping the impressive big man out of what should be a cracker as Denbigh look to avenge an early season defeat.

Mike Lundstram is also missing from the squad due to a hamstring and he is joined on the sidelines by Matty Gatfield , the full back having picked up a thigh strain.

Kevin Jones is absent through work committments , so John Roberts provides the cover in central defence , whilst Paul Edwards may feature after another 90 minute work out in the Reserves last Saturday.

Ryan Harden is also added to the squad as he looks to increase his minutes on the pitch after a summer long injury.

Denbigh Town bade farewell to Darrel Jones today when the central defender re-signed for home town club Llandudno Junction. Darrel found his opportunities to play first team football at Central Park limited and has decided to return to the Welsh Alliance with Junction.

Darrel played a number of games pre-season and was well thought of with his commitment in the tackle and distribution so he will be a big asset to Llandudno Junction FC.

Darrel came to the attention of the Central Park management after impressing in Welsh Alliance League and Cookson Cup performances against the Town , including hitting two spectacular goals

So 'Good Luck' , Darrel.

Manager Dyer reports no new injuries as Denbigh Town look to make it three wins out of three for their game against Llanfairpwll on Saturday.
Dyer believes that Llan will provide similar opposition as Llandyrnog United.
" It was very low key first half on Wednesday and we cannot expect Llanfairpwll to be as flat as Llandyrnog were in the first half  , but there's no doubt about it , if we produce some of the football we played second half , and put a bit more tempo to it , we'll be fine. It was great to see all our forwards scoring as it brings confidence. "

Manager Dyer reports no new injuries as Denbigh Town look to build on Saturday's win against Holyhead Hotspur.
Dyer was full of praise for his team and seeks a similar work ethic for Town's interesting Wednesday night encounter against local rivals Llandyrnog United at Central Park.
"Up to half time we'd played the right way , did the right things , but just lacked a bit of quality at times in the final third. I said at half time , just keep playing the right way and we will back ourselves to come good which at the end of the day we did. We went three at the back for a spell which put them under the cosh , it allowed us a bit more freedom in the midfield area to get the ball to the forwards. I don't think we had a bad performer out there ."

Studio Pedro received a very welcome email off Trevor from the www.easternfootball.co.uk website and podcast site. It is always great to receive emails , comments , feedback , suggestions etc. as it gives a lot of encouragement to carry on.

Having listened to a number of Eastern Football podcasts , I can tell you they are quite amusing , a great format , well produced and definately worth the time to listen to.

Anyway , here is the email from Trevor , which was muchly appreciated by yours truly.

Cheers Peter, I have put a link to the Denbigh website on the main Eastern Football website and have just added another one on our podcast webpage. I enjoyed listening to a couple of your podcasts, though I know nothing about your team or the league you play in, I think this will change over the coming months though.

The Eastern Football website started as a bit of fun in November last year, we aimed to cover just the Eastern Counties Football League but with a name like Eastern Football we soon found ourselves covering 8 leagues! It has upset a couple of local newspapers as all it mainly does is aggregate news from them and republish it on the website but for this season clubs can enter their own content directly onto the website which will hopefully stop the newspapers from worrying so much and it may end up that they use news from us rather than the other way round.

Our Podcasts started as a things usually do, a group of friends sat around a table full of empty beer glasses. A friend and I thought it might be fun to do some sort of radio broadcast, we had been discussing the introduction of broadband TV coverage of some of the lower leagues and felt we could have a bit of fun going around the grounds and meeting up with some friends along the way. It has grown into quite a phenomenon locally, with over 100 downloads for our first podcast with a growth of about 20% each week. We have been featured on iTunes as a ‘New & Notable’ podcast which we thought was amazing and been mentioned on local BBC radio and in the local press! All this from a boozy chat at a bar-b-que!

You will have noticed ours is a very different format to yours, with general chat being our main objective. We have been lucky so far in that we have been able to interview chairmen and mangers of at least one of the clubs we’ve featured on the day, I don’t know what will happen when we get no officials interviewed though we always record plenty of chatter with supporters on the day which often gets edited out.

Anyways, enough of my waffling, have a great season with Denbigh Town and I will listen in from time to time to see how you are all doing. Keep up the excellent work.

Regards

Trevor

Manager Tim Dyer has targetted a much improved performance when Denbigh Town take on Bala Town at Maes Tegid on Tuesday , kick off 7-30pm , writes Peter Glynn.
Town's 1-1 draw at Bodedern on Saturday drew a level of criticism from Dyer who was disappointed with the overall team performance.
" On Saturday , we just never played as we know we can. I think too many of the players just turned up , waiting for it to happen and it wasn't until we went one down that we really got going. "
A better second stanza earned the draw for the Central Park outfit and Dyer believes with a bit of composure early on , a win may have been on the cards.
" Second half we improved things and if we had equalised earlier we could possibly have gone on to win the game."
Dyer now turns his attention to the Bala Town encounter.
" Bala will be a much tougher proposition and we really need to raise our game - not just one level , but in some players cases two or three levels."
Denbigh Town name an 18 man squad for the game at Bala Town on Tuesday evening.
Included in the squad is teen striker Luke O'Mahoney who is hoping to shrug off the ankle knock that kept him out of the opening fixture at Bodedern on Saturday.
TinyPic image
 Luke O'Mahoney
Paul Edwards is still absent following keyhole surgery on a knee , though the influential midfielder had a 45 minute run out with the Reserves on Saturday.
Also doubtful are Ryan Harden and Matt Gatfield.

Meanwhile , Reserves striker Matt Toole has suffered an injury that has been the blight of England , Manchester United and Liverpool footballers this season. The Denbigh Town striker suffered a fractured metatarsal  during the final pre season game at Ruthin Reserves last week.

Toole was not available for the opening Clwyd Premier Division fixture on Saturday at Central Park with Abergele Rovers , the visitors eventually running out 5-2 winners , and the hit man is definately out of Wednesday night's home encounter with Llansannan.

Team News for Saturday:

CPD Bodedern FC Forum
Tim Dyer names a big squad for Town's opening fixture at Bodedern.

Denbigh Town (From)
Jamie Hulse ,Darren Edwards ,Adam Jones , Kevin Jones , Matt Gatfield , Mark Orme , Darrel Jones , John Roberts , Tony Davies , Jamie Hobson , Kevin Evans , Ryan Harden , Darren Cassidy , Tommy Harrison , Kenny Burgess , Andy Booker , Ian Evans , Mike Lundstram and Gareth John Williams.
Paul Edwards remains on the sidelines after keyhole surgery on a knee. Luke O'Mahoney (ankle) , Matt Gatfield (thigh) and Ryan Harden (knee) are rated as doubtful.

Pre Season Blub:

Teamwork , a close knit squad and with a management set up to envy , sees Denbigh Town FC looking forward with confidence to that big step up to the Cymru Alliance , after gaining the League & Cup double in their successful Welsh Alliance campaign on 2006-07.
Under Manager Tim Dyer , the Central Park outfit have retained most of last season's players , and have beefed up considerably by adding Mike Lundstram , Kenny Burgess , Tommy Harrison  and Tony Davies to the mix.
Goals win games and Lundstram has the speed and trickery to convert at this level.
Dyer will be delighted to have captured Burgess , who struck 10 league and cup goals last term. The former Colwyn Bay and Bangor City flyer is a firm favorite with the fans , and they will be looking to Burgess to also supply and finish in front of goal.
Harrison (pictured) lists Caernarfon Town , Bangor City , Connah's Quay and Welshpool as his former clubs and the 25 year old's experience makes this a key signing for Denbigh , providing that touch of class and steel in the middle of the park.
tommyharrison.jpg
Tony Davies , formerly of Bala Town , hit the ground running by helping his new club to blank Connah's Quay Nomads on debut , and looks as if he will be a major force in the middle of the Denbigh defence.
The one player , one club rule makes choices difficult for clubs and for players alike, and sometimes it may be a case of  'better the devil you know ' and Town will have benefitted from the closeness of the squad , along with the man-management skills of Dyer and his assistants , Dean Martin and Steve Jones , who were both top players on the North Wales scene.  Add to this a pitch that caters perfectly for 'the beautiful game' , a hard working committee and you start to realise why Denbigh Town can attract quality players.

Delighted Denbigh Town have secured two big signatures as Manager Dyer puts the finishing touches to his Cymru Alliance Squad for the 2007-08 season.

Wing back Matt Gatfield has put pen to paper and this is an autograph that Denbigh's manager has been chasing since last season. The former Rhyl man has university commitments but his input in 2006-07 was vital as Town swept aside all before them.

TinyPic image

Teen sensation Luke O'Mahoney (pictured) is another to put his moniker on the dotted line and the former Rhos United hitman's physical presence will be important as Town look to hit the ground running , starting next Saturday at Bodedern.

Tim Dyer's Denbigh Town take on Newtown AFC on Saturday missing a number of players who are either unavailable or are nursing knocks. Mike Lundstram , Tommy Harrison , Kevin Jones (work) , Darrel Jones and Steve Jones are unavailable , whilst Darren Cassidy and Paul Edwards remain on the treatment table. Also doubtful are Ryan Harden (knee) and Matt Gatfield (leg). Harden picked up his knock in Thursday's win over Bangor City and along with Gatfield will undergo a fitness test before Dyer names his line up to face the Welsh Premier outfit. Manager Dyer has called up two reserves to boost numbers , namely  , Tom Sheridan and Gaz Lewis , and one man returning is Kenny Burgess , who missed the 5-1 win over Bangor City.
The match will be another opportunity to see new boys Tony Davies (pictured) and Luke O'Mahoney , the latter scoring on debut in an impressive display.

Tim Dyer names a strong squad for the latest Central Park pre-season match ups , both against Welsh Premier opposition , firstly entertaining a strong Bangor City outfit on Thursday 9th August , kick off at 7-15pm and on Saturday welcoming Newtown , kick off at 2-30pm.
Notable absentees for the City game are Paul Edwards (knee) and Gaz John Williams , whilst on Saturday , striker Mike Lundstram is unavailable.
On show for Dyer's men will be Luke O'Mahoney , who scored a cracker for Llanrwst United in Town's recent game which ended with the Roosters pinching a 4-3 win , and ex Bala Town central defender Tony Davies , who impressed on debut against Connah's Quay Nomads.

Club Captain Mark Orme returns to the Denbigh Town line up on Friday 20th July , when the Central Park side take on Bangor City with a 7pm kick off.
Town will be looking to shrug off the disappointment of losing the Caernarfon Town fixture so late in the day , and manager Tim Dyer will be urging his boys to kick on after such a good performance against Warrington Town Reserves.

" We will be missing Kevin and Ian Evans , who are away for the weekend on a family holiday and Darrell Jones is out personnel commitments. Yesterday Paul Edwards had some key hole surgery on a knee problem and will be out for 4 weeks. Ryan Harden is still missing with a tendon injury, John Roberts doesn’t return from holiday until Saturday. All the above mentioned players have committed themselves to the club for the coming season.
"Other players already signed up include Adam Jones, Jamie Hulse, Jamie Hobson, Andy Booker, Mike Lundstrum & Darren Cassidy." said Tim Dyer.
Manager Dyer is hopeful of capturing the signatures of Tommy Harrison and Kenny Burgess , which would be a massive boost to the Town's prospects for the new season.
" We are hopeful we’ll have a decision off the two of them this weekend as to whether they will be committing to Denbigh for the coming season."

Two members of Denbigh Town's Reserve side have caught the eye and Justin Jones and Matt Toole have been added to the squad for the Friday evening fixture.

On Saturday 21st July , the Reserves kick off their pre season with a home fixture against Brynford at Central Park. Kick Off is 2pm. Manager Tony Sheridan has strengthened his squad for the campaign in the Clwyd Premier , and knows that his boys will need to hit the ground running as tough fixtures come thick and fast , none harder than Abergele Rovers on the first Saturday of the new season , 18th August.

Sophie's Trophies

Denbigh Diamonds U/13 girls football team captain, Sophie Roberts,
had plenty of reasons to celebrate after winning an armful of trophies
including the Supporters Player, Players Player and the Manager's Player of the Season Awards.  The proud captain of the only girls football
team to represent Denbigh Town received her rewards at the annual end
of season junior presentation night at the Plas Pigot club.  Sophie has
also been selected to represent the North East Wales League.  They will
play several fixtures including games against The Wirral, Everton,
Chester, Wrexham and others.  Denbigh Diamonds manager, Martin Jones, presented the trophies which also included Top Scorer - Paige Morris and Most Improved Player - Anona Davies-Smith.  The Diamonds will be playing in their new Inter Milan kit next season which was very kindly sponsored by Denbigh Town Council.  Any girls aged between 12 and 15 interested in playing football please contact Martin Jones on 01745812810, or Rod Roberts on 01745816620.

Denbigh Town FC Juniors Fun Day took place on Saturday 16th June.
There were a number of attractions to keep young and old occupied , such as army inflatable assault course, weapons display, command tasks, bouncy castle, soccerama, face painting, drinks and refreshments, BBQ and a soccer skills course.
TinyPic image
Special thanks to Wes Farley , who is a serving member of the British Army and who organized the attendance of members of his Regiment on the day.  It is thanks to his hard work and the enthusiasm of his men that the day was such a success with the inflatable assault course proving a BIG hit  with the children who came along.  The club would also like to thank Bodidris Beef and Henllan bread for their support and Townsend Supplies and ATS Tyres for allowing us to use their fences to put the signs back  up, advertising the whole event. Also a huge thank you to the managers and parents who helped me out on the day and helped make it a day to remember.
TinyPic image

Despite some obstacles in our way, not least of which was the initial removal of the the publicity signs by the County Council and the none too summery weather, everyone that  came along seemed to have a good time.  The aim of the day was to give the children of Denbigh a good old fashioned fun day out and to raise
the profile of the club.  Whilst there is no question that the fun day out was achieved, we still need to reiterate the point that the future success and growth of the club is dependant on more adult volunteers
coming forward.  The Secretary was approached by a number of parents on the day, enquiring about their children joining a Denbigh youth team and we have no shortage of young  players. However, we have no parents/adults to act as managers and are therefore unable to create any more teams.  We are desperate for a manager for our existing U13 yrs team and if we are unsuccessful in finding someone by the end of July, this team will fold and the players move to teams out of the town, which would be a terrible disappointment to us all.  We are also in need of an assistant manager to help with our U15yr team as the existing manager is unable to committ every weekend due to work commitments.
TinyPic image

Anyone out there who feels they could lend their support in any way would be most welcomed and can contact  Sarah Blake on 01745 812802.  Full support and training will be provided and paid for by the
club and no experience is necessary, just lots of enthusiasm!!  It is a committment each week to run the teams, but the rewards of the childrens enthusiasm and enjoyment makes it more than worthwhile.

I would like to offer my congratulations to Denbigh Town Reserves who on Saturday clinched promotion back to the Clwyd League Premier Division. What pleases me as Team Manager is that the team has achieved their success in a sporting manner and by playing football as I think it should be played.
They have grown as players , have shown a capacity to take on board all we did in training and rightly deserve promotion in a very competitive league.
Thank you , Denbighshire Free Press & Vale Advertiser, for the excellent press coverage which means a lot to these players.
There are others I must thank for their assistance. Chris Bailey , my assistant , has been superb. Also , Club Chairman Clwyd Williams , Vice Chairman Shon Powell , Club Secretary Ally Bennett and also Peter Glynn. These and others have encouraged and supported the team totally during the season.
Our team is a young team - and a lot of credit goes to family members who are there supporting their boys on and off the field. Finally , it has been a great advantage to play at Central Park , as the playing surface is condusive to the good football that we are , as a management team , encouraging our lads to play. Therefore a big thank you to our excellent grounds staff.
