Dominant Denbigh Town successfully defended the Cookson Cup with a 3-0 defeat of Llanrug United at Farrar Road , Bangor , writes Peter Glynn.

A League and Cup Double has been the reward for another outstanding season under manager Tim Dyer , who has also been awarded with the Manager of the Year title by the Welsh Alliance League.
Add to this the Fair Play Trophy , and no wonder things are looking rosy at Central Park.
Playing some of their best football of the season , Town were good value for the 3-0 scoreline and limited their opponents to half chances and long range efforts , whilst carving out numerous chances themselves and registering with three excellent goals , including a dazzling solo effort from Darren Cassidy.
The Caernarfonshire side employed tough , no-nonsense tactics , and Town had to weather an early storm before stamping their footballing authority on the game. Early doors Town were limited to the occasional breakaway , yet on 2 minutes Williams Cooke could have registered when he lobbed wide of the keeper  and then on 10 minutes the same man rifled in a rip snorter which was eventually scrambled away by United shot-stopper Aled Williams.
Target man Williams Cooke was very active and he next chanced his luck with a left foot volley from 35 yards which whistled past a post. 'Rug countered when Terry Williams sent over a ball that was eventually cleared after brave work by John Roberts. Then Hulse was brave to dive at the feet of dangerman Williams who was utilising his pace in an effort to puncture to Town back line.
A Kevin Evans cross was headed behind as Town ratcheted up the pressure , then sibling Ian had a near post shot deflected into the side netting as Town pressed for that precious opener.
Kevin Jones was making hay on the left flank and he linked with Williams Cooke before hitting a swirler that was palmed to safety.
Denbigh Captain Mark Orme had to put his body on the line to deny the speedy Terry Williams and came up with the football , sending a pass out to Ian Evans , but United somehow managed to hoick the ball into the car park.
It was only temporary relief for the now under-siege United team as Town struck with a beauty on the 40 minute mark.  Ian Evans , now back at his best , received a ball out on the right and he turned on a sixpence , threading one into Kenny Burgess. The goal getter took a touch before firing low into the net to edge the Central Park outfit in front.
Llanrug hit back and John Roberts had to be at his strongest and most determined to clear his lines as an equaliser looked likely for a second , with United's star man Williams calling for a penalty.
But Town then took a huge stride towards retaining their Cup when,  on 43 minutes , Denbigh doubled their advantage , and again it was the Ian Evans - Burgess combo that carved it out , with the latter firing home his second of the night.
Credit to Llanrug , they did not lie down and as half time beckoned , a 30 yard volley was superbly turned round a post by the flying Jamie Hulse - his second high quality save in a week.
The second stanza saw Town determined to keep their opponents at arms length , limiting their opponents to the occasional breakaway.
Paul Edwards sent in a fizzing shot that was headed into the side netting by a beleaguered Llanrug defender , and then a Harden give and go almost fell to sub Moores as Denbigh began to dominate all areas of the park.
'Rug were getting a lesson in the art of football and Man of the Match Matty Gatfield was cynically felled in frustration by Terry Williams who saw yellow.
Manager Dyer now added Darren Cassidy to the mix as Town went for the jugular , and that produced a contender for Goal of the Season. The fleet-footed wide man collected the ball on the half way line. Cassidy beat one , slipped past another and sped into the box , before taking it round a third United defender and slotting home to the delight of his collegues.
There was no way back for Llanrug and there were jubliant scenes as Orme stepped forward to receive the Cookson Cup to round of the perfect season for the Central Park club.
